One person's account of using both. It is an opinion, it is not a benchmark, and it is here because the rest of this page is a table.
Twenty passages of known provenance — ten written by hand, ten generated, four of the handwritten ones by non-native English speakers — went through both. Both got the obvious cases right. Both flagged two of the four non-native passages as probably machine-written, which is the failure mode this whole category has and neither vendor has solved. The difference was what happened next: GPTZero gave a number and a highlight, aiCat gave a number and the four phrases it had reacted to — and all four were things a careful second-language writer does. That did not make the score correct. It made it arguable, which is the most an honest detector can offer.
Stay on GPTZero if you are an institution
