The cost of translation is not really the translation. It is that a translator in a browser tab gets used for the passages you cannot guess at, and skipped for the ones you can half-read — which is where the misunderstandings come from.

Which AI model does it use?
By default the cheapest model that is good enough — currently Gemini Flash Lite, falling back to Gonka. You can pick Gemini Pro, Claude, GPT or a local model instead, per task.

Yes. It works at the operating-system level rather than through per-app plugins, so it covers native apps, browsers, IDEs, terminals and PDF viewers alike.
Is my text sent anywhere?
Only the text you explicitly act on is sent to the model you selected, for that one request. Your history is stored locally on your device. Team + Offline can run a local model so nothing leaves the machine at all.
